Denmark 1535 4 skilling
This specimen was lot 10041 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for €480 (about US$500). The catalog description[1] noted, "DENMARK. 4 Skilling, 1535. Malmö or Copenhagen Mint. Christian II. NGC AU-55. Double-struck but at the same time well-struck and exceptionally well-preserved with lots of luster. This coin was struck in the name of Christian II by his second cousin, Count Christopher of Oldenburg, who aided the dethroned king in his unsuccessful attempt to re-claim the throne after the death of his usurper and uncle, Frederik I. From the L. E. Bruun Collection." At this time one gulden was 48 skilling; the specie daler would not appear until later.
