Denmark 1525 sosling
The first specimen was lot 10032 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for €168 (about US$175). The catalog description[1] noted, "DENMARK. Søsling, 1525. Ribe Mint. Frederik I. NGC EF-40. Excellent for type. From the L. E. Bruun Collection. Ex. Johan G. Guildal Collection (Private Sale - 1918)." The second specimen was lot 10033 in the same sale, where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "DENMARK. Søsling, 1525. Ronneby Mint. Frederik I. NGC VF Details--Environmental Damage. A scarce mint, as Ronneby in Blekinge (present day Sweden) only functioned as mint for the one year, 1525. From the L. E. Bruun Collection." At this time one gulden was 48 skilling or 96 søsling; one søsling ("sixling") = six penning, hence the name. The specie daler would not appear until later.
