This type was issued 1859 and 1862 along with one, three, twenty and five cent coins. Danish currency endured several "reforms" in the nineteenth century. For the West Indies, the decimal conversion occurred in 1858, with twenty cents = one franc. The Danish West Indies were sold to the United States in 1917.

Recorded mintage: 140,000 plus prooflike specimens.
