This specimen was lot 50388 in Ponterio sale 168 (Los Angeles, September 2012), where it sold for $646. The catalog description[1] noted, "CUBA. 5 Centavos, 1915. NGC PROOF-63. Mintage of only 150 pieces. Lightly toned." This type was struck in the United States for Cuba 1915-20 using nickel blanks. Unlike the pesos, this denomination circulated extensively. The catalog does not record the "low relief star" and "high relief star" varieties noted for the larger silver denominations.

Recorded mintage: 5,096,000 plus 150 proofs.

Specification: 5 g, copper-nickel, 21 mm diameter, plain edge.
