This specimen was lot 6662 in Ponterio sale 155 (Baltimore, November 2010), where it sold for $805. The catalog description[1] noted, "COSTA RICA. 1/2 Escudo, 1850-JB. NGC MS-63." The SCWC lists this date as expensive but this date almost never appears fully struck as this example.

Recorded mintage: 3,388.

Specification: 1.60 g, 0.875 fine gold, .045 troy oz AGW.
