Colombia 1737-SF M escudo
This specimen was lot 47 in Sedwick sale 25 (Winter Park, FL, May 2018), where it sold for $3,867.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Bogota, Colombia, cob 1 escudo, (1)737(M), rare, NGC MS 62, finest and only example in NGC census. Superb full shield and cross, the latter with bold date above, exceptional grade. NGC #4722592-004." This type was issued from Bogotá 1717-46. The production of cobs continued sporadically into the 1740's. It was superseded by milled portrait coinage. As with most cobs, specimens with legible dates form a minority of survivors.
