Stack's Bowers April 2021 Hong Kong sale, lot 51388

This specimen was lot 51388 in Stack's Bowers Hong Kong auction (Hong Kong, April 2021), where it sold for $2,160. The catalog description[1] noted,

"CHINA. 500 Yuan, 2010. Panda Series. PCGS MS-70. First Strike insert. Free of noticeable flaws with moderate amounts of reddish tone on both sides."

The Chinese government has, since the mid 1980's, produced a mind boggling array of bullion related collectibles. The gold panda is one of the most popular. Prior to 2001, the one ounce panda was denominated 100 yuan.

Recorded mintage: 300,000.

Specification: 31.1 g, 0.999 fine gold, 1.000 troy oz AGW.
