Sincona sale 51, lot 2283

This specimen was lot 2283 in Sincona sale 51 (Zürich, October 2018), where it sold for 1,200 CHF (about US$1,448 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"500 Yuan 2008. Panda. Polierte Platte. FDC. In Originalverschweissung. (China, five hundred yuan of 2008, panda. Choice Proof, In original plastic holder.)"

The Chinese government has, since the mid 1980's, produced a mind boggling array of bullion related collectibles. The gold panda is one of the most popular. Prior to 2001, the one ounce panda was denominated 100 yuan.

Recorded mintage: unknown but not rare.

Specification: 31.10 g, 0.999 fine gold, 1.000 troy oz AGW, 32 mm diameter; this specimen 31.50 g.
