Stack's Bowers April 2021 Hong Kong sale, lot 51408

This specimen was lot 51408 in Stack's Bowers Hong Kong auction (Hong Kong, April 2021), where it sold for $960. The catalog description[1] noted,

"CHINA. 50 Yuan, 2008. Lunar Series, Year of the Rat. GEM PROOF. 5 Ounce Silver, rectangular coin. Sharply struck with hard mirrored fields and frosted cameo devices. Includes the case of issue and certificate of authenticity #0420."

Ever eager to increase sales, the Chinese mints began producing rectangular, scalloped and fan shaped NCLT's.

Recorded mintage: 1,888.

Specification: 155.5 g, 0.999 fine silver, 80 x 50 mm.
