Sincona sale 59, lot 1111

The first specimen was lot 1087 in Sincona sale 38 (Zürich, May 2017), where it sold for 700 CHF (about US$840 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"300 Yuan 1980. XXII. Olympische Sommerspiele 1980 in Moskau. Bogenschützen. Polierte Platte. FDC. (China, three hundred yuan of 1980, for the 1980 summer Olympic Games in Moscow, Archery, Choice Proof.)"

This specimen was lot 1111 in Sincona sale 59 (Zürich, October 2019), where it sold for 600 CHF (about US$727 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted,

"CHINA | Volksrepublik, 300 Yuan 1980. Olympische Sommerspiele 1980 in Moskau. Bogenschützen. NGC PF69 Ultra Cameo. (people's republic of China, three hundred yuan of 1980, Olympic Summer Games in Moscow, archery. Proof.)"

This Olympic NCLT was accompanied by KM 23-36 (all 30 yuan) in silver. The Chinese government has, since the mid 1980's, produced a mind boggling array of bullion related collectibles. A complete set is thousands of types yet buyers clamor for more. This is one of the first commemoratives for China.

Recorded mintage: 15,000 proofs.

Specification: 10 g, 0.917 fine gold, this specimen 10.05 g.

Catalog reference: KM 37. Fr-6.
