The specimen shown is a type struck in Chile 1956-59. It was the first issue of this denomination since 1901, when a gold coin was struck. It is the last of its denomination and is worthless in all grades. The escudo superseded the peso in 1960, with one escudo = 1000 pesos.
Recorded mintage: 44,500,000.
Specification: 2.96 g, aluminum, 29 mm diameter.
