Chile 1851 1/2 centavo KM-117
This specimen was lot 1363 in Classical Numismatic Group's sale of the Lissner Collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $726. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHILE, Republic. 1818-present. Proof CU 1/2 Centavo. Heaton (Birmingham) mint. Dated 1851. In NGC encapsulation graded PF 66 BN. Very nice gem coin with even reddish brown patina. Type with flat star and highest ever graded. Purchased from World-Wide Coins of Atlanta (Lou Collins and Warren Tucker)." Chile converted to decimal coinage in the 1850's and these half and one centavos were part of the program. This half centavo comes in flat star (KM 117.1 thru KM 117.5) and raised star (KM 118). Both are common in circulated condition.
Recorded mintage: 1,620,000 plus 2,200,000 of the raised star (KM 118).
