This specimen was lot 29514 in Heritage sale 3040 (Chicago, April 2015), where it sold for $1,057.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 10 Pesos 1852-So AU58 NGC, Santiago mint. Very lustrous and well detailed, with scant friction on the higher points defining the grade. A good representative of this early decimal gold issue of cruder style, desirable and rarely seen in this engaging preservation." This specimen was one of a series struck 1851-53 in Santiago, Chile. Two later types exist (KM 131 and KM 145), with slightly different designs for the arms and the standing Liberty.
