Sincona sale 80, lot 2071

This specimen was lot 2071 in Sincona sale 80 (Zürich, October 2022), where it sold for 1,500 CHF (about US$1,798 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "CHILE, Republik. 10 Pesos 1854 IJ, Santiago. NGC AU58." This specimen was one of a series struck 1854-67 in Santiago, Chile. An earlier and a later type exist (KM 123 and KM 145), with slightly different designs for the arms and the standing Liberty. Despite the substantial mintage, this issue does not turn up often.

Recorded mintage: 195,000.

Specification: 15.23 g, 0.900 fine gold, .441 troy oz AGW.
