Stack's Bowers October 2025 Collectors Choice sale, lot 74161

This specimen was lot 74161 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2025), where it sold for $145. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHILE. 1/4 Real, 1801-So. Santiago Mint. Charles IV. PCGS VF-30. From the Richard August Collection." This type was struck at Santiago 1796-1808 in limited numbers and, tho not common, is much less rare than preceding types featuring the portrait of the king. It was continued unchanged into the reign of Ferdinand VII.

Recorded mintage: 57,000.

Specification: 0.84 g, 0.896 fine silver, .024 troy oz ASW.
