Chile 1800-So AJ 2 reales
This specimen was lot 71218 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2023), where it sold for $504. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHILE. 2 Reales, 1800-So AJ. Santiago Mint. Charles IV. PCGS Genuine--Chopmark, VF Details. Despite the noted chopmarks before and behind the bust of the Spanish monarch, possibly representing the Chinese character 丁, as well as what appears to be an attempted drill hole below the bust, this minor retains solid detail overall." This type was issued from Santiago 1792-1808 and, tho not common, is less rare than preceding types. Despite the chopmarks, this example realized five times the catalog value.
