Canada 1938 50 cents
The death of George V provided the occasion for the complete redesign of Canadian coinage with more distinctly Canadian motifs. This type was struck 1937-47 with the wartime issues of 1940-45 being the most common. Silver was removed from the fifty cent piece in 1968. This specimen was lot 30543 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), where it sold for $2,100. The catalog description[1] noted, "George VI 50 Cents 1938 MS65 ICCS, Royal Canadian mint, KM 36. An already incredibly difficult date to encounter in mint state, this year is even more elusive in a gem grade such as this. Hints of cobalt, goldenrod, and seafoam green highlight the palette, while blistering argent surfaces strengthen the charm and appeal. Without a doubt, a true condition rarity with endless eye-appeal."
