Heritage sale 3038, part of lot 33820
Canada H3038-33820j.jpg

The death of George V provided the occasion for the complete redesign of Canadian coinage with more distinctly Canadian motifs. This type was struck 1937-47 with the wartime issues of 1940-45 being the most common. Silver was removed from the fifty cent piece in 1968. This specimen was part of lot 33820 in Heritage sale 3038 (Dallas, January 2015), which sold for $1,527.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "George VI Six Piece Specimen Set 1937, KM-SS35. This is the scarcer set with mirror-like fields consisting of Cent to Dollar. Housed in its original case from the Canadian mint in Ottawa. Reported mintage of 75 Specimen Sets."

Recorded mintage: 192,016 (a common date).

Specification: 11.62 g, 0.800 fine silver, .300 troy oz ASW, reeded edge.

Catalog reference: KM 36.
