This specimen was lot 32649 in Heritage sale 3049 (Long Beach, September 2016), where it sold for $176.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "George VI 5 Cents 1938 MS64 PCGS, Royal Canadian mint. A few scattered ticks ultimately prevent the Gem designation on this appealing selection that features a glaze of champagne color across the surfaces and boldly-defined raised elements." Canadian five cent pieces were struck in nickel 1922-42 then converted to "tombac" (a variety of brass) for 1942-43, then in chrome plated steel 1944-45, then back to nickel for 1946-51. This is a common date except in high grade.

Recorded mintage: 3,898,974.

Specification: 4.5 g, nickel, 21.2 mm diameter, designed by T. H. Paget.

Catalog reference: KM 33.
