This specimen was lot 26325 in Heritage sale 3024 (Chicago, April 2013), where it sold for $352.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "George VI 50 Cents 1939, MS64 ICCS, a desirable better date with satin-like luster throughout and no major grade-limiting marks, premium quality for the grade. From The Nikita Collection." The death of George V provided the occasion for the complete redesign of Canadian coinage with more distinctly Canadian motifs. This type was struck 1937-47 with the wartime issues of 1940-45 being the most common. Silver was removed from the fifty cent piece in 1968.
Recorded mintage: 287,976.
Specification: 11.62 g, 0.800 fine silver, .300 troy oz ASW, reeded edge.
