This specimen was lot 20791 in Heritage sale 3008 (New York, January 2010), where it sold for $4600. The catalog description[1] noted, "George V gold 10 Dollars 1914, MS64 PCGS. Full mint brilliance with nice definition and a few minor marks. A second Choice example of this very scarce issue." This type, struck 1912-14 only along with some gold five dollar pieces (KM 26), was an experiment to replace the sovereigns previously struck at Ottawa. The weight standard is virtually identical to a United States ten dollar gold piece. The outbreak of World War One terminated the issue of gold in Canada.
Recorded mintage: 140,068.
Specification: 16.72 g, 0.900 fine gold, .483 troy oz AGW.
Catalog reference: KM 27.
