Canada 1912 10 dollars
This coin was lot 8481 in Ponterio sale 150 (Los Angeles, August 2009), where it sold for $21,850. The catalog description[1] noted,
"CANADA. Specimen 10 Dollars Struck at the Royal Mint at Ottawa, 1912 'First Year of Decimal Coinage.' Obverse die engraved by Sir E.B. Mackennal with "BM" on shoulder of King George. Reverse die engraved by W.H.J. Blakemore. An EXTREME RARITY in the Canadian series. Lovely satiny gold fields similar to that of a matte proof, with the portrait and devices displaying a softer and slightly brighter sheen. A very attractive coin that would make a great centerpiece in any Canadian collection. PCGS SP-67."
The type was struck in Ottawa 1912-14.
