Stack's Bowers 2024 NYINC sale, lot 55687

This specimen was lot 55687 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2024), where it sold for $504. The catalog description[1] noted, "CANADA. 50 Cents, 1914. Ottawa Mint. George V. PCGS AU-55." This type was struck 1912-19 and is fairly common up thru Very Fine. In 1920, the silver coins were debased to 0.800 fine. This is the scarcest date.

Recorded mintage: 160,128, the key date.

Specification: 11.62 g, 0.925 fine silver, 29.7 mm diameter.
