This specimen was lot 70324 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, May 2018), where it sold for $900. The catalog description[1] noted, "CANADA. 5 Cents, 1888. PCGS MS-65 Secure Holder. Strong luster with a lovely cartwheel effect and handsome red-gold toning in the peripheries. Tied for third finest certified at PCGS with only two finer. Free of marks as would be expected for the grade with fantastic eye appeal. A real treat for collectors." This type was struck 1858 and 1870-1901 in substantial quantities and most dates are fairly plentiful up to Extremely Fine.

Recorded mintage: 1,000,000, a fairly common date.

Specification: 1.16 g, 0.925 fine silver, .034 troy oz ASW, reeded edge.
