This specimen was lot 72207 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, June 2020), where it sold for $204. The catalog description[1] noted, "CANADA. 5 Cents, 1889. London Mint. Victoria. PCGS AU-55 Gold Shield. A wholesome overall example, this enchanting minor features some rather colorful toning through hues of burgundy, cobalt, and golden yellow." This type was struck 1858 and 1870-1901 in substantial quantities and most dates are fairly plentiful up to Extremely Fine. This date has an above average mintage yet is accounted a scarce date. This example did not realize its catalog value.

Recorded mintage: 1,200,000.

Specification: 1.16 g, 0.925 fine silver, .034 troy oz ASW, reeded edge.
