This specimen was lot 20595 in Heritage sale 3008 (New York, January 2010), where it sold for $4,168.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "Victoria 5 Cents 1885 Small 5 Over Large 5, MS64 PCGS. Deeply toned with blue-green, russet and gold highlights, small mark on the cheek. Extremely rare variety in this quality; the Belzberg coin was also MS64." This type was struck 1858 and 1870-1901 in substantial quantities and most dates are fairly plentiful up to Extremely Fine. The catalog notes three varieties for the date, "Small 5," "Large 5," and "Large 5 over Small 5" (shown here). The last is priced about triple the other two varieties.

Recorded mintage: 1,000,000 (all varieties).

Specification: 1.16 g, 0.925 fine silver, .034 troy oz ASW, reeded edge.
