This specimen was lot 30028 in Heritage sale 3029 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $55,812.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Unknown as a Specimen Victoria Specimen Cent 1884, Specimen 65 Red Brown NGC. This is an amazing Victoria Cent. Unlisted in Specimen, or Proof, for this date. Fully mirrored fields with a razor-sharp strike and abundant, original red mint color. Extremely rare in this condition, and very likely a Royal Mint Proof issue. Ex: 'Colonel' E.H.R. Green; Green Estate' Partnership of Eric P Newman/B.G. Johnson." This type was struck 1870-1901 in large quantities and is readily available in grades up to brown Uncirculated. This date is priced about 40% higher than the commonest date (1900-H) but is otherwise unmemorable.

Recorded mintage: 2,500,000.
