Canada 1881-H 25 cents
This specimen was lot 34436 in Heritage sale 3094 (Chicago, August 2021), where it sold for $8,100. The catalog description[1] noted, "Canada: Victoria 25 Cents 1881-H MS65 ICCS, Heaton mint. Clad in a balanced steel-gray patina that carries a soft undercurrent of metallic blue throughout the surfaces. A persistent expression of sharp detail confirms a sound strike, while no distractions of note may be detected throughout either the fields or raised features. A decidedly scarce issue when located so fine. Ex. Victoria North Collection. From the Buckingham Collection." The type was struck in 1858 and 1870-1901 at Heaton (shown here) and London.
Recorded mintage: 820,000, a a scarce date in high grade.
