Canada 1881-H cent
The first specimen was lot 37696 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2025), where it sold for $240. The catalog description[1] noted, "CANADA. Cent, 1881-H. Birmingham (Heaton) Mint. Victoria. NGC MS-64 Brown." The second specimen was lot 37697 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2025), where it sold for $2,640. The catalog description[1] noted, "CANADA. Cent, 1881-H. Birmingham (Heaton) Mint. Victoria. PCGS AU-55. Variety with doubled die obverse." This type was struck 1870-1901 in large quantities and is readily available in grades up to brown Uncirculated. This date is priced about double the commonest date (1900-H) but is otherwise unmemorable. The doubled die obverse variety is not mentioned in the SCWC.
