Cambodia 1974 100000 riels
This specimen was lot 20231 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2019), where it sold for $3,120. The catalog description[1] noted, "CAMBODIA. 100000 Riels, 1974. NGC PROOF-68 Ultra Cameo. A deeply mirrored issue with frosty cameo and essentially no individually noteworthy surface marks. From the Collection of Dr. James Eustace Bizzell, II." In 1974, the government of Cambodia was busy collapsing as the Khmer Rouge relentlessly advanced. Soon, Pol Pot would establish his communist paradise, causing the death of over two million people. It seems unlikely that any of these coins actually made it to Cambodia.
Recorded mintage: 100 plus 250 proofs.
Specification: 13.42 g, 0.900 fine gold, .385 troy oz AGW.
