This specimen was lot 44143 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Costa Mesa, CA, August 2021), where it sold for $660. The catalog description[1] noted, "CAMBODIA. 40 Riels, 1989. NGC MS-69. Featuring a view of Angkor Wat. A pleasing and fully lustrous Gem." This design was also used on a silver 20 riels (KM 76), and a copper 4 riels (KM 90). The People's Republic of Kampuchea was renamed the State of Cambodia in 1990 but the country remains a shambles.
