Künker sale 352, lot 1864

This specimen was lot 1864 in Künker sale 352 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €3,000 (about US$4,175 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRAUNSCHWEIG UND LÜNEBURG, BRAUNSCHWEIG-WOLFENBUTTEL, Wilhelm, 1831-1884. Vereinskrone 1857, B. GOLD. Sehr seltener Jahrgang. Winz. Randfehler, kl. Kratzer, fast vorzüglich. Jaeger bezeichnet das vorliegende Stück mit dem Jahrgang 1857 als Probe. Diese Münze unterscheidet sich jedoch nicht von den Jahrgängen 1858 und 1859. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel, William I, 1831-84, union crown of 1857, very rare date, minor rim nick, light scratch, about extremely fine. Jaeger notes that this is a pattern for the kronen issued in 1858-59.)"
