Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel 1800-MC 10 thaler Fr-725
This specimen was lot 52218 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Pittsburgh, PA, August 2023), where it sold for $3,360. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Brunswick. 10 Talers, 1800-MC. Zellerfeld Mint. Karl Wilhelm Ferdinand. PCGS MS-63. Wholly Choice and resplendent, this entrancing Mint State example stands as the only representative of the date seen in the PCGS census and undoubtedly offers an elevated level of quality that is RARELY encountered." This type was struck 1794-1801 and 1804-06 but all dates are rare. It was accompanied by a similar five thaler (KM 1025) and 2½ thaler (KM 1032). The duke issued much silver but little gold. The ten thaler matched the Prussian doppelter friedrichs d'or. The last ten thaler was struck in 1857.
