Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel 1801-MC 5 thaler Fr-726
This specimen was lot 1862 in Künker sale 352 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €950 (about US$1,322 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRAUNSCHWEIG UND LÜNEBURG, BRAUNSCHWEIG-WOLFENBUTTEL, Karl Wilhelm Ferdinand, 1780-1806. 5 Taler 1801, MC. GOLD. Kl. Kratzer, sehr schön. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel, Charles William Ferdinand, 1780-1806, five thalers of 1801. Minor scratches, very fine.)"
This type was issued in small quantities 1785-1806 along with a gold 2½ (KM 1032) and ten thaler (KM 1041). The last five thaler was struck in 1857.
