This specimen was lot 73542 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2023), where it sold for $120. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Brunswick. 4 Mariengroschen, 1784-CES. Zellerfeld Mint. Karl Wilhelm Ferdinand. PCGS MS-62. An argent example with a generous wash of golden toning over the diminutive surface. Evenly struck but with the Wild Man in somewhat low relief. Charming. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection." This type was struck 1781-86 wit a wild man reverse. Another four mariengroschen (KM 1006) was struck simultaneously with a leaping stallion reverse. By this time, the gulden had slipped from two-thirds to half a thaler, making this coin one-twelfth of a thaler.
