Künker sale 386, lot 5086

This specimen was lot 5086 in Künker sale 386 (Osnabrück, March 2023), where it sold for €1,600 (about US$2,068 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRAUNSCHWEIG-WOLFENBÜTTEL, FÜRSTENTUM, Karl Wilhelm Ferdinand, 1780-1806. Konv.-Taler 1783, Braunschweig. R Feine Patina, vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. Das Stück wird, wohl aufgrund seiner Seltenheit, als Probeprägung angesehen. (duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel, Charles William Ferdinand, 1780-1806, convention thaler of 1783, Brunswick mint. Rare, fine patina, extremely fine to uncirculated. This date is so rare as to be regarded as a pattern.)"

The style of the bust is that of the post-Napoleonic period.
