This specimen was lot 73263 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2023), where it sold for $144. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Brunswick. 6 Mariengroschen, 1740-IBH. Zellerfeld Mint. Karl I. PCGS AU-58. KM-872; Welter-2752. Featuring a deeper tone nearer the peripheries and some lighter hues centrally, this near-Mint fractional denomination is free from almost any evidence of handling or time in circulation. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection." This denomination was one-sixth of a thaler or one quarter gulden. This type was struck 1735-80 and is common. Mintmaster IBH appears 1739-62.
