This specimen was lot 73532 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2023), where it sold for $144. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Brunswick. 12 Mariengroschen (1/3 Taler), 1740-IBH. Zellerfeld Mint. Karl I. PCGS AU-58. Lustrous steel gray surfaces form the backdrop to the design elements of this piece. Evenly struck from a slightly worn obverse die and with some shadowing weakness on the reverse. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection." This type was struck 1735-80 and is common. Mintmaster IBH appears 1739-62. All of the twelve mariengroschen struck by this duke used the "wild man" design; the "leaping stallion" only appeared on one-third thalers (= half gulden) starting in 1764.
