This specimen was lot 73520 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2023), where it sold for $144. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Brunswick. 12 Mariengroschen (1/3 Taler), 1732-IAB. Zellerfeld Mint. Ludwig Rudolph. PCGS AU-55. This coin offers steel gray surfaces with hints of darker gray and champagne in the peripheries. Somewhat softly struck with weakness on the reverse opposite the Wild Man figure. Very lightly worn and a charming issue. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection. Includes ticket from Kuenker." Prior to succeeding to Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel, Ludwig Rudolf was prince of Brunswick-Blankenburg 1690-1731. This type was struck 1731-35 for Ludwig Rudolf and is fairly common. Twelve mariengroschen made one-third of a thaler or half a gulden.
