Künker sale 354, lot 5495

This specimen was lot 5495 in Künker sale 354 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €1,900 (about US$2,644 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRAUNSCHWEIG UND LÜNEBURG, BRAUNSCHWEIG-WOLFENBÜTTEL, FÜRSTENTUM, Rudolf August und Anton Ulrich, 1685-1704. 1/2 Reichstaler 1695, Wolfenbüttel, auf den Tod von Christine Sophie, Tochter von Rudolf August, am 26. Januar. RR Feine Patina, vorzüglich. Aus der Sammlung eines Ingenieurs. Exemplar der Slg. Dr. Werner Koch, Teil 1, Auktion Dr. Busso Peus Nachf. 273, Frankfurt/Main 1970, Nr. 259. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, Rudolf August and Anton Ulrich, 1685-1704, half thaler of 1695, Wolfenbüttel mint, on the death of Christine Sophie, daughter of Rudolf August, in January 1695. Very rare, fine patina, extremely fine.)

Christine Sophie, *03.04.1654, †26.01.1695, als Tochter von Rudolf August und dessen Gemahlin Christine Elisabeth von Barby und Mühlhausen. Vermählt 1681 mit ihrem Vetter August Wilhelm von Braunschweig als seine 1. Gemahlin. (Christine Sophie, b. 03.04.1654, d. 26.01.1695, was the daughter of Rudolf August and his wife Christine Elisabeth von Barby and Mühlhausen. She was married in 1681 to her cousin August Wilhelm von Braunschweig as his first wife.)"

This sad event was commemorated on an eighth thaler (KM 618), quarter thaler (KM 619), half thaler (shown here) and thaler (Dav-6400).
