This specimen was lot 617 in Stacks-Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $2,232.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel. Taler, 1655. August II (1634-66). NGC MS-64. Highest certified example. Dark toned with iridescent blue hues. Exceptional quality. From the Rockaway Collection." This type of 1652-55 is not as common as "wild man" thalers such as Dav-6340 but it is not rare.
