Kunker sale 293, lot 502

This specimen was lot 502 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €85 (about US$115 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRAUNSCHWEIG-WOLFENBÜTTEL, HERZOGTUM August der Jüngere, 1635-1666. 1/8 Reichstaler 1647, Zellerfeld. R Sehr schön. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel, Augustus the Younger, 1635-66, one-eighth thaler of 1647, Zellerfeld mint. Scarce, very fine.)"

This type is noted for 1637-41 and 1647. Numerous "wild man" thalers exist from this state.
