Jean Elsen sale 162, lot 1701

This specimen was lot 1701 in Jean Elsen sale 162 (Brussels, June 2025), where it sold for €280 (about US$388 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"ALLEMAGNE, BRUNSWICK-WOLFENBÜTTEL, August (1635-1666), AR Taler, 1648 HS, Zellerfeld. D/ Le duc à mi-corps à g., en cuirasse, ten. son heaume et un bâton de commandement. R/ Écu orné, sous cinq heaumes. Nettoyé. (Germany, duchy of Brunwsick-Wolfenbuttel, August, 1635-66, silver thaler of 1648, Zellerfeld mint. Obverse: half length armored bust of the duke left, holding a helmet and a baton; reverse: five helmeted ornate arms. cleaned, Very Fine.)"

This type was struck 1647-50 and is very similar to Dav-6338 (struck 1639-48), Dav-6346 (struck 1638-39) and Dav-6347 (struck 1639-46), all common.
