Brunswick-Luneburg-Celle 1665-LW 1/16 thaler
This specimen was lot 5617 in Künker sale 354 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €140 (about US$195 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRAUNSCHWEIG UND LÜNEBURG, BRAUNSCHWEIG-LÜNEBURG, FÜRSTENTUM, Christian Ludwig, 1648-1665. 1/16 Taler 1665, Clausthal. Hübsche Patina, vorzüglich. Aus der Sammlung eines Ingenieurs. Erworben 1983 von Jeberien. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Luneburg-Celle, Christian Louis, 1648-65, one sixteenth thaler of 1665, Clausthal mint. Handsome patina, extremely fine.)"
Duke Christian Ludwig died in 1665. This type was struck 1659-1665. His successor, Georg Wilhelm, was the last duke of the line. The duchy of Brunswick-Luneburg-Celle then passed to Hannover in 1705.
