British West Africa 1952-KN 1/2 penny
British West Africa comprised Gambia, Sierra Leone, Gold Coast (now Ghana) and Nigeria. The union broke up in the late fifties as the parts were granted independence. This specimen was lot 71193 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2020), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "BRITISH WEST AFRICA. 1/2 Penny, 1952-KN. Kings Norton Mint. PCGS SPECIMEN-65 Red Brown Gold Shield. Incredibly attractive and highly alluring, this fully reflective Gem presents great red-brown color and some hints of burgundy near the peripheries. Ex: Kings Norton Mint Collection." This one year type is fairly common.
Recorded mintage: 4,800,000 plus more from Heaton and London.
