British West Africa comprised Gambia, Sierra Leone, Gold Coast (now Ghana) and Nigeria. The union broke up in the late fifties as the parts were granted independence. This specimen was lot 2082 in Goldberg sale 81 (Los Angeles, September 2014), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "British West Africa. ½ Penny, 1949-KN. George VI. PCGS graded Specimen 66. Ex: King's Norton Mint Collection." Half pennies were issued for British West Africa 1911-52 and this type is listed for 1949 and 1951.
Recorded mintage: 3,413,000 plus proofs.
