This specimen was lot 34303 in Heritage sale 3038 (Dallas, January 2015), where it sold for $1,116.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "George VI Proof 1/2 Penny 1952 PR67 NGC. An exceptional example of this rare Proof type with mirror-like surfaces and unblemished fields." This type was struck 1949-52 and is common, tho the proofs are scarce. A half penny of 1954 ends the series. Coinage was initiated for the Fiji Islands in 1934, the year after New Zealand and the year before New Guinea. The sterling coinage ceased in 1968.
Recorded mintage: 228,000 plus a few proofs.
