This specimen was part of lot 25229 in Heritage sale 61382 (Dallas, March 2024), which sold for $180. The catalog description[1] noted, "Brazil: Republic Pair of Certified bronze 20 Reis NGC, 1) 1900 - MS63 Brown; 2) "Medallic Alignment" 1889 - UNC Details (Altered Color), Rio de Janeiro mint." Shown is a copper twenty réis of the United States of Brazil, struck 1889-1912. It is accompanied by a similar forty réis (KM 491). It is catalogued as a fairly common date. The twenty réis, a descendant of the twenty réis of colonial times, ceased production after 1912 and was replaced in 1918 by a copper-nickel twenty réis.
