This specimen was lot 1107 in Ponterio sale 173 (New York, January 2013), where it sold for $1,292. The catalog description[1] noted, "BRAZIL. 4,000 Reis, 1900. NGC MS-63. Star with 20 rays. Struck to commemorate the 400th Anniversary of the Discovery of Brazil. Between the 16 ray star and 20 ray star, there is a total mintage of 6,850 pieces. Toned." This commemorative, issued with a silver 400, 1000 (KM 500) and 2000 réis (KM 501) was the last full weight crown from Brazil.
