Bolivia 1798-PTS PP 4 escudos
This specimen was lot 840 in Sedwick Auction 37 (Winter Park, FL, May 2025), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "BOLIVIA, Potosí, gold bust 4 escudos, Charles IV, 1798 PP, rare, NGC AU details / obv scratched, finest and only example in NGC census, ex-Almenara. Broad flan extending past the full rims in places, highly lustrous and virtually as struck but with slightly soft high points and heavy scratch in front of neck, the best at NGC nevertheless. Pedigreed to the Almenara Collection." This type is very scarce as is most colonial gold from Bolivia. Some of the later dates have recorded mintages under a thousand.
